In the second week of Advent, we light candles and turn our hearts and thoughts toward peace. The peace our hearts long for during Advent is the deep, abiding peace only Christ can bring into a world so often filled with fear and chaos. For those serving in pregnancy help, this peace is particularly significant. Every day, pregnancy help organizations encounter women and families navigating unexpected news, overwhelming voices, and circumstances that feel impossible. Many feel afraid and alone. In many ways, their experiences echo the world Jesus was born into — a world in need of the peace only He can provide.
Peace When Things Are Uncertain
The peace of Advent is not the absence of chaos but the presence of Christ within it. When a woman arrives carrying anger, sadness, fear, or confusion, those serving in pregnancy help often become the first steady voice in her storm. The simple act of listening creates space for her to be honest, vulnerable, and truly heard.
Isaiah writes, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” (26:3 NIV). This promise applies powerfully to moments inside a counseling room or on the other end of a helpline. Peace does not mean having every resource available at once. It means trusting that Christ will provide for her needs and bring calm into the chaos, often through the faithful presence of those who walk with her. Pregnancy help workers model the very peace they hope to foster.

Becoming a Path to Peace
During the Advent season, we remember how peace entered the world through a humble young woman who faced a pregnancy she did not plan. Imagine how Mary must have felt, or the confusion and fear she must have experienced as a result of the angel’s message to her. Yet her response was the simple statement, full of faith and trust in the Lord, “...let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38 ESV)
Those serving in pregnancy help follow a similar calling. They help women see hope when the bigger picture feels impossible to grasp. Through prayer, compassion, education, and practical support, they offer a steady presence that guides women toward peace rooted in Christ.
Every interaction, whether a counseling session, class, phone call, or material assistance visit, becomes a moment where peace can take root. A calm voice, patient listening, and quiet reassurance remind her that she is not alone.

The Multiplication of Peace
This season is also a reminder that peace must be received to be shared. The work of pregnancy help is meaningful, but it can be draining. Emotional and physical fatigue can dull the peace Christ freely gives.
Advent invites those within the movement to pause and be refilled. Focus on this promise from the Lord as we meet with Him to be filled with His presence and peace.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
- John 14:27 (NIV)
Emmanuel, God with us. He is with us on the days that are hard. He is with us in every moment, from praying before the clients walk through the door, to the time spent with each precious soul, and the moments afterward when we pray for her, the baby she is carrying, and what she is facing. When we are filled with the peace of Christ and pour that into the lives of our clients, then they can share that peace with their families and friends, multiplying the peace of Christ that leads to transformed lives.
As the candle of peace is lit this week, many in the pregnancy help movement are reflecting on the women and families they’ve served throughout the year. They pray that Christ’s peace, which surpasses understanding, surrounds them in every circumstance.
Christ entered a chaotic world and brought a peace that lasts through eternity. Those serving in pregnancy help have the privilege of carrying that same message to every woman they encounter. May His peace guide and sustain all who continue this vital mission.
