Like the three wise men, the pro-life movement uses wisdom and discernment to rescue unborn babies

(National Right to Life News) The story of the wise men bringing gifts to baby Jesus is well known. The Bible mentions three gifts–gold, frankincense, and myrrh–and likely because of the popular song, “We Three Kings of Orient Are,” Christmas programs and manger scenes usually depict three men, also known as “Magi,” in long flowing robes wearing crowns.

Folklore tells us that these three men were named Balthazar, Caspar (or Gaspar), and Melchior.

While all of this makes for fond traditions and fun singing, all we really know is that three “wise” men came from the east while following a star to find “one who has been born king of the Jews”Jesus. They stopped in Jerusalem to seek help from Herod the king, whose advisors searched the records and found a prophecy foretelling a ruler who would come from Bethlehem.

Herod pretended that, he, too, wanted to “go and worship him” but what he really wanted to know was where this threat to his kingdom was. As we all know, the wise men were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod but to return home by another route.

An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, telling him to take Jesus and Mary to Egypt. What we don’t know is how long this all took. How long after Jesus was born did the wise men appear?  How long did it take Herod to realize the wise men were not coming back?

What we do know is that, in an attempt to prevent the baby Jesus from escaping, Herod issued an evil edict, ordering that all boys, age two and under, be brutally killed.

Even 2,000 years later, the world looks at that massacre in horror. Indiscriminately ripping babies from their mothers’ arms and putting them to death? It’s hard to even imagine—unless you’re active in the pro-life movement and aware of what is going on around us.

For almost 50 years, the law of the United States permitted the wanton killing of preborn babies for almost any reason throughout the entire pregnancy. Thankfully, this national edict, Roe v Wade, was overturned in 2022 and babies are being saved.

Since the reversal of Roe, however, the abortion movement has become even more rabid in their thirst for the blood of innocents. Their weapon of choice is increasingly the abortion pill.

They refuse to acknowledge the danger to women who use mifepristone. They are sending abortion pills through the mail, not caring if the drug ends up in the wrong hands where they can be given to an unsuspecting pregnant woman without her knowledge. They truly believe they should be paid, by our tax dollars, to kill our most vulnerable brothers and sisters.

Like the wise men in this story, the pro-life movement seeks wisdom and discernment. We are seekers. We search for more ways to help moms and babies; search for new and creative ways to change bad laws and pass good, life-saving laws; and pursue strategies and tactics to prevent the evil-doers from carrying out their deeds.

We are opposed by national and state leaders who promote the killing of innocent children. When opposition is powerful, as is the case in “blue” states, we find other routes to accomplish our goals.

Pregnancy centers continue their awesome, heroic work. They provide day-to-day necessities for mom and child. Many of them also provide Abortion Pill Reversal (APR), so a woman who has begun the chemical abortion process can change her mind and often prevent the death of her child.

Needless to say, the enemies of life hate pregnancy help centers with a passion.

States are being creative so they can help moms who don’t know what to do or know what help is available. Legislatively, many states have stepped up, passing laws to protect unborn babies in all or most circumstances.

Bills in legislatures, or actions by pro-life state attorneys general, are efforts to hold accountable those who wantonly kill innocent children.

As we look ahead, we know the path we trod won’t be easy. There will be detours but, blessed with wisdom and courage and a sense of right and wrong, we’ll continue to speak up and fight for the littlest among us.

Just as wise men saved the baby Jesus, the pro-life movement will continue to fight to save His littlest brothers and sisters.

Merry Christmas to the wise men and women of the pro-life movement! May God bless you and your family with love, peace, and joy.
