Lowcountry Pregnancy Center just celebrated its 40th anniversary, having served the Charleston, S.C. community with life-affirming reproductive health and family services since 1986 through its three centers and some 171,000 client visits.
At the center’s 40th anniversary banquet this past March, CEO Joy Yarborough, who has been with the center since 1993, shared about the increase in client sessions seen at Lowcountry Pregnancy Center in the last year, as well as other summative stats.
In 2025, there were 9,739 client visits between the three centers, 585 more than the year before. Of those, 1,418 were for pregnancy tests and accompanying one-on-one counseling hours “where clients are heard and ministered to.”
Yarborough highlighted the importance of ultrasound services.
“I think about the countless times when someone has walked into my office and said those golden words, ‘She changed her mind.’ She walked away from a life-altering decision; she walked away from abortion. From death to life,” Yarborough said.
“We performed 500 lifesaving ultrasounds last year,” Yarborough said. “So many clients in that ultrasound room are just amazed at seeing the little, tiny heartbeat of that baby just flickering on that screen.”

Yarborough said that through the center’s “Godly approach to relationships,” in discussion with women, 107 women committed to abstinence before marriage. Center counselors had the opportunity to share the gospel 789 times and saw 14 clients make a profession of faith in Christ, she said, and in the past 12 years 521 women have come to know the Lord through the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center.

One-thousand-two-hundred and forty-one parenting class sessions were taught to help moms and dads be equipped to be parents, and over 6,266 times the center assisted individuals in need of material support such as diapers, formula, baby clothing, and car seats.
The center’s parenting classes include a reading and singing group for moms and babies, where each child receives a new board book at each of four meetings. They also include a safety education program, Keeping Babies Safe, with education on car seats, shaken baby syndrome, and more.
“We see these programs as an extension of our mission to save babies’ lives,” Yarborough told Pregnancy Help News.

Dads Matter, a program started in 2010, continues to bring young dads together with male mentors. Lowcountry Pregnancy Center has seen an upward trend in fathers’ participation.
Last year, the center held 20 abortion recovery sessions using Forgiven and Set Free, a Bible study designed to foster freedom from guilt and grief following abortion.
“It guides those who are hurting out of the darkness and into God's light, where true and lasting healing can take place,” Yarborough said. “Classes are available for women and men.”
Lowcountry Pregnancy Center’s bilingual and English options counseling sessions led 38 women to consider adoption for their children in 2025.
And best of all, Yarborough said, “Through counseling and education about the reality of abortion and the devastating side effects, through sharing the biblical perspective on life, and through the miraculous intervention of God’s mercy and grace, 524 women at risk for abortion chose life.”
Client testimonies expressing gratitude are plentiful and were among the presentations at the 40th anniversary event.

Keynote speaker Lee Strobel, bestselling author and award-winning editor, whose works include The Case for Christ and The Case for a Creator, told those gathered at the pregnancy help event that “the case for life” was personal for him.
“I was, 74 years ago, an unwanted pregnancy, at least in the eyes of my dad,” Strobel, a former atheist, said.
Strobel’s parents had three children when his mother became pregnant with him.
“It wasn’t welcome news,” he said. “But abortion was illegal and my parents were Christian, so I’m thankful they chose life for me.”
Next on the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center event calendar is the Lowcountry Walk for Life in November.
