(PLAM) It is almost impossible to talk about abortion without also talking about Planned Parenthood. Since the early 1970’s, Planned Parenthood has been the nation’s #1 provider of abortion procedures. In Planned Parenthood’s 2022-23 annual report, it reported nearly $2.1 billion in income and over $2.9 billion in net assets. Planned Paretnhood received nearly $700 million of YOUR tax dollars in this budget cycle alone.
Looking back further, in the past decade, Planned Parenthood has committed roughly 3.8 million abortions while simultaneously receiving north of $6.5 billion in taxpayer funding. Since 2000, Planned Parenthood has committed over 7.1 million abortions and received 10.7 billion in taxpayer dollars. Since 2000, Planned Parenthood has murdered more innocent children than known Jews in the holocaust. Planned Parenthood is the largest contributor to our modern day genocide that is abortion. According to LiveAction News, Planned Parenthood commits 1,076 abortions every day, nearly 45 every hour, and one every 80 seconds.

Yet, very frequently we see many people singing Planned Parenthood’s praises. Here are some of the misleading myths circulated by the abortion industry as it relates to Planned Parenthood:
Myth #1: “Planned Parenthood is about health care. Abortion is only a fraction of what they do.”
Abortion has always been a top priority for Planned Parenthood. They have tried to claim that abortion services are only a fraction of what they do, however this is hard to believe when they claim 40% of the market share of abortions. Additionally, according to their most recent report, all of Planned Parenthood’s services apart from abortion have declined since 2004, while simultaneously abortions there have increased 100%.
Myth #2: “Planned Parenthood is one of the main places women go for prenatal care.”
Planned Parenthood’s prenatal care services have decreased by 80% since 2010. Most recent data says Planned Parenthood commits 62 abortions for each reported prenatal care service provided.
Myth #3: “Planned Parenthood offers mammograms.”
According to GoodRx, Planned Parenthood is not a mammogram provider. Their website states: “Planned Parenthood health centers don’t have mammogram machines or perform mammograms.” If this is true, why do people think they can get mammograms at Planned Parenthood? Well this lie has been circulated by politicians and Planned Parenthood leadership as fact. In 2015, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards falsely claimed that they provided this service, even though they do not. Again, in May 2019, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (from Minnesota) criticized the Trump administration for their efforts to cut Planned Parenthood’s federal funding. Klobuchar stated: “In their lifetime, one in five women go [to Planned Parenthood]. . . . And most of them are going there for contraception, birth control [and] . . . for mammograms.”
Myth #4: “If Planned Parenthood is defunded, women will have nowhere else to go.”
There are about 1,400 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) that offer multiple services for both men and women while remaining free of abortion. Additionally, there are about 3,000 pregnancy help centers that provide a range of essential and professional care encompassing support services, medical care, and resources, to women, men, and youth. If men and women are looking for health care services, they most certainly have options other than Planned Parenthood.
